Baramulla, Nov 13: A joint team of police and security forces on Thursday apprehended two persons in North Kashmir’s Sopore after they according to police attempted to flee upon noticing the presence of personnel near Ahat Baba Crossing.
The duo was intercepted while coming from Fruit Mandi Sopore during routine checking.
Police said both individuals were arrested on the spot following their suspicious behaviour. The arrested persons have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Najar son of Mohammad Akbar Najar, an inhabitant of Mohalla Tawheed Colony Maazbugh, and Shabir Ahmad Mir son of Mohammad Sultan Mir, an inhabitant of Brath Sopore.
According to officials, incriminating materials and arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession. The seized items include one pistol, one magazine, twenty live rounds and two hand grenades. Police said the recoveries indicate their involvement in militant activities in the area.
In this connection, an FIR No. 253/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Sopore and investigations have been taken up. [KNT]
