Kulgam, Nov 19: In a significant medical achievement, Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo Memorial Hospital (SDH DH Pora) has successfully performed its first laparoscopic appendectomy, marking a major advancement in healthcare services for the region.

The pioneering procedure was carried out by Surgeon Dr. Jan Sarfraz, with crucial support from Anaesthetist Dr. Zahoor Ahmad. The dedicated OT team—Mr. Shahbaaz Hamid, Mr. Aejaz Ahmad, Mr. Aga Imdad, along with Showkat Ahmad (MTS) and Mohd Jamal (Housekeeping)—ensured smooth and safe execution of the surgery.

Chief Medical Officer Kulgam, Dr. Shaukat Hussain Parray, praised BMO DH Pora and the entire medical team for conducting the first-ever laparoscopic surgery at the hospital. He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and providing quality medical services to the people of district Kulgam.

Block Medical Officer, Dr. Ashiq Hussain Azad Bhat, also lauded the team, calling the milestone a proud moment for SDH DH Pora. He highlighted that the introduction of laparoscopic surgery will significantly improve patient outcomes by reducing postoperative pain and recovery time.

Local residents expressed gratitude and appreciation, applauding the health department for bringing advanced surgical facilities closer to the community and reducing the need for patients to travel to distant hospitals for specialized care.
