Handwara, Nov 20: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Handwara have successfully busted a narco-terror module operating in the Qalamabad area, officials said on Thursday.
“Acting on specific intelligence regarding the possession of commercial-quantity narcotics along with illegal arms and ammunition, the authorities registered FIR No. 38/2025 at Police Station Qalamabad under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act, Sections 13, 18, 23, and 39 of the UA(P) Act, and Section 7/25 of the Arms Act,” said officials as per GNS.
During the operation, Shahnawaz Khan, aged 23, son of Abdul Lateef, and his father, Abdul Lateef, 53, both residents of Puthwari, Nowgam, Handwara, were arrested. The duo, the officials said, was reportedly running an active narco-terror network in the area, coordinating the distribution of narcotics alongside other unlawful activities.
Investigations have so far led to the seizure of a pistol with seven live rounds and approximately 890 grams of heroin-like contraband. “Further inquiries are underway, and additional arrests and recoveries are expected as the case develops,” officials further said. (GNS)
