Kulgam, Nov 21: BJP senior leader, former District President Kulgam and District Executive Officer Waqaf Board Kulgam, Aabid Hussain Khan, has strongly opposed the proposed 20% hike in electricity tariffs, calling it anti-people and an unnecessary burden on households already struggling during the harsh winter season.

Khan reminded the administration that the government had earlier promised 200 units of free electricity to the people of Jammu & Kashmir. “Instead of delivering on what has been assured, the government is now proposing a 20% tariff hike, which is highly unjustified and unacceptable,” he said.

He said the people of J&K are already dealing with severe winter conditions, rising prices of essential commodities, and reduced earning opportunities. “At a time when temperatures drop drastically and people rely heavily on electricity for heating and daily needs, any steep rise in tariff is insensitive and will push common families into further hardship,” he stated.

Urging the administration to withdraw the proposal, Khan called on the concerned authorities to focus on measures that ensure reliable and affordable power supply. He stressed that public interest should remain paramount, especially during winters when electricity consumption rises but incomes remain limited.

Reiterating his commitment to public welfare, Khan said, “Our focus should be on easing the difficulties of citizens, not adding to their challenges. I appeal to the administration to reconsider this move in the interest of justice, compassion, and public welfare.”

Aabid Hussain Khan further assured that he will continue to raise the concerns of the people at every platform to prevent any decision that negatively impacts the residents of Jammu & Kashmir.
