Jammu, Dec 26: Minister for Education and Social Welfare Sakina Itoo on Thursday said that the government has completed its role in the reservation amendment process, with the Council of Ministers approving the proposed changes and forwarding the decision to the Lieutenant Governor for final approval.

In a statement issued in Jammu, the minister said that certain individuals are misleading youth and students on the reservation issue and are unnecessarily targeting the government despite the matter having already been cleared by the Cabinet.

“The government has done its part. The Council of Ministers has approved the reservation-related amendments and submitted the decision to the Lieutenant Governor for approval,” she said, adding that criticism directed at the government at this stage is misplaced.

Sakina said those spreading confusion among students and aspirants should instead approach the Lieutenant Governor’s office to seek clarity on the status of the Cabinet-approved decision. “If these people want to protest, they should do so before the LG’s office rather than indulging in unwarranted criticism of the government,” she said.

She remarked that it was ironic that those raising slogans against the government appeared reluctant to protest before the Lieutenant Governor’s office, where the matter currently rests.

The minister urged students and young aspirants not to be misled by what she termed as hollow slogans and false narratives. She said the government has taken decisions keeping the larger interest of youth and aspirants in mind and has acted responsibly on the reservation issue.

Sakina reiterated that misleading the youth and leveling false accusations against the government serves no purpose, and stressed that any grievance should be raised at the appropriate forum. [KNT]
