Teacher booked after alleged assault on girl student in Sopore: SSP Iftikhar Talib
Sopore, Apr 13: Tension gripped Government Girls Higher Secondary School Sopore on Monday after scores of girl students staged emotional protests, alleging that a teacher had sexually assaulted one of their classmates.
Many students were seen raising slogans and demanding immediate action, saying they no longer felt safe inside the school premises.
Speaking to reporters, SSP Sopore, Iftikhar Talib, said the students staged protests over the incident, following which police took immediate cognizance of the matter.
He said an FIR has been registered against the accused and legal action has been initiated. The teacher has also been placed under suspension.
The accused teacher has been identified as Ghulam Hassan alias Azhar.
The SSP said police officials are in talks with the protesting students and have assured them that strict legal action will be taken against the accused.
Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway.
