Kulgam, Apr 18: Intensifying its war against drugs under the Nasha Mukt J&K campaign, Kulgam Police carried out a series of coordinated operations across the district, leading to the arrest of three drug peddlers, seizure of contraband substances, destruction of illegal poppy cultivation in Qaimoh and sealing of a medical shop in Devsar for regulatory violations.
As per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, In continuation of its sustained campaign against drug trafficking, illicit cultivation of narcotic plants and misuse of controlled medicines, Kulgam Police carried out multiple successful operations across the district, leading to the arrest of three drug peddlers in Qazigund jurisdiction, destruction of illegal poppy cultivation in Qaimoh and sealing of a medical shop in Devsar for regulatory violations.
Kulgam Police reiterates its firm commitment to eradicate the drug menace and safeguard the youth from substance abuse.
1ST INCIDENT – QAIMOH: ILLEGAL POPPY CULTIVATION DESTROYED
Acting on credible information regarding illicit cultivation of poppy plants at Hassanpora Bagh, Police Station Qaimoh registered FIR No. 34/2026 under Sections 8/18 NDPS Act and started investigation.
A police team reached Hanji Mohalla, Hassanpora Bagh, where verification on the spot confirmed illegal cultivation of poppy plants on land under the possession of Ab. Mohd Ayoub Ganie S/o Ghulam Mohammad Ganie R/o Hanji Mohalla, Hassanpora Bagh.
The poppy plants were sampled, seized and destroyed on the spot in the presence of the Executive Magistrate. The entire process was videographed and photographed, while all required legal formalities including seizure, sampling and destruction memos were completed on site.
2ND INCIDENT – QAZIGUND: 322 GRAMS CHARAS RECOVERED
During naka checking at Drein Crossing, a suspicious person moving from Drein towards NHW-44 attempted to flee after noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully.
During search, 322 grams of charas powder (grinded cannabis resin) wrapped in a green polythene packet was recovered from his possession.
The accused was identified as Ali Mohd Parray S/o Ghulam Mohd Parray R/o YK Pora.
Accordingly, Case e-FIR No. 82/2026 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Qazigund and investigation taken up.
3RD INCIDENT – QAZIGUND: 1.5 KG CHARAS-LIKE SUBSTANCE SEIZED
During patrolling duty by the team of Police Post Mir Bazar at NHW near Grid Station Nipora, a suspicious person carrying a polythene bag was noticed moving from Mirbazar towards Vessu. On noticing the police party, he attempted to flee but was apprehended tactfully.
Upon search of the bag, 1.5 kilograms of semi-grinded charas powder-like substance was recovered.
The accused was identified as Anayat Bashir S/o Bashir Ahmad Ganie R/o Nussu Badragund, Qazigund.
Accordingly, Case FIR No. 81/2026 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been initiated.
4TH INCIDENT – QAZIGUND: HEROIN-LIKE SUBSTANCE RECOVERED
During naka duty near Drein Railway Crossing, a suspicious person attempted to flee after noticing the police party but was swiftly apprehended.
During personal search, a heroin-like substance weighing 6.4 grams, wrapped in a transparent sachet, was recovered from his possession.
The accused was identified as Umar Bashir Ganie S/o Bashir Ahmad Ganie R/o Nussubadragund.
Case e-FIR No. 80/2026 under Sections 8/21 NDPS Act was registered and investigation taken up.
During investigation, the case is also being examined from the angle of organised criminal activity and provisions of Section 111 BNS may be invoked subject to further evidence.
5TH INCIDENT – DEVSAR: MEDICAL SHOP SEALED
In a joint action with the Drug Inspector, Good Luck Medical Store, Devsar was sealed for violations relating to improper maintenance of records of NRx medicines.
Further legal proceedings under relevant provisions have been initiated.
Kulgam Police appeals to the general public to join hands in the fight against drug abuse and share any information regarding drug peddling or narcotics activity. Identity of informers shall be kept strictly confidential. (KNC)
