Srinagar, Apr 30 : Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in the Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday, officials said.
An official told that a motorcyclist was killed after his bike collided with a load carrier on the Handwara bypass road.
He said the accident involved a motorcycle bearing registration number JK09E-0932 and a load carrier JK09E-1239. The rider, identified as Shahid Ahmad Shah, son of Irshad Ahmad Shah and a resident of Maidan Chogal, sustained critical injuries.
“He was shifted to GMC Handwara, where doctors declared him brought dead,” the official said, adding that the load carrier driver fled the scene.
In another incident at Maratgam in Handwara, a load carrier bearing registration number JK09C-4575 hit a pedestrian. The victim sustained critical injuries and was taken to GMC Handwara, where she was declared brought dead.
She was later identified as Aazi Begum (70), wife of Mohd Abdullah Bhat.
Police have taken cognisance of both incidents and initiated further investigation.—(KNO)
