Srinagar, May 15: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Kashmir unit will hold a protest march here on Friday against the operation of wine shops in the valley, demanding a complete prohibition on the sale and purchase of liquor in the Kashmir division.

The march is scheduled to commence at 10 AM from Ram Munshibagh in Sonwar and proceed towards the residence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Gupkar, a party spokesperson said.

The ruling National Conference (NC) was also targeted by the party, which accused it of defending the sale and promotion of alcohol in the region.

“The sale of liquor in the Kashmir Valley is a direct assault on our social and religious ethos. We demand an immediate and complete ban on wine shops across the Kashmir division,” BJP state co-media incharge Advocate Sajid Yousuf Shah told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).

He further alleged that the National Conference was defending the sale and promotion of alcohol, adding that the people of Kashmir have “repeatedly rejected such vices”. (KNS)
