Kulgam, May 19: In view of the forthcoming Eid-ul-Adha celebrations, the district administration on Tuesday conducted a market inspection drive in the main markets of Yaripora and Frisal areas of Kulgam district to ensure strict compliance with food safety and market regulations.

The inspection was carried out by the Tehsildar Yaripora in the presence of the SHO Yaripora and officials from the Food Safety Department. The team inspected various business establishments, particularly shops dealing in food items, bakery products, meat and other essential commodities witnessing increased demand ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.

During the drive, officials examined the quality and freshness of consumable items, sanitation standards, price lists and overall market practices to prevent overcharging, hoarding and the sale of expired or substandard products.

Shopkeepers and traders were instructed to maintain proper hygiene, display approved rate lists at visible places and strictly adhere to food safety guidelines. The officials also urged market stakeholders to ensure the availability of quality products and avoid unfair trade practices during the festive season.

Authorities said the inspection drive was aimed at safeguarding consumer interests and maintaining transparency in the markets ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, adding that similar inspections will continue in other areas to ensure smooth and fair market functioning. (JKNS)
