Budgam, June 4: MLA Khansahib, Adv. Saif Din Bhat, today visited several Khag areas affected by the recent hailstorm and flash floods that caused extensive damage to crops, horticulture produce, and public infrastructure.

The sudden hailstorm has left farmers in distress, as standing crops in many villages have suffered severe damage. During his visit, the MLA assessed the losses on the ground and reviewed the overall situation in the affected areas.

Adv. Saif Din Bhat toured Drung, Poshkar, Khag, Chehrar, Habbar, Lassipora, Sugan, Shunglipora, Sugin Kangripora, Khanpora and adjoining villages. He interacted with local residents and farmers, listened to their concerns, and gathered firsthand information about their immediate needs. While expressing relief that the region was spared from a major disaster, he conveyed his deep sympathy to the affected families facing hardships due to the calamity.

The MLA stated that concrete measures are being taken to address flood-related risks and provide immediate relief to the people. He informed that the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Jal Shakti (PHE), Public Works Department (R&B), Horticulture Department, Agriculture Department, BDO Khag, PMGSY and other concerned departments have been mobilized to undertake restoration and preventive measures.

He further said that work is being carried out in coordination with the concerned departments on the construction of protection bunds, improvement of drainage systems, restoration of damaged infrastructure and other essential projects. Work has already commenced at several locations, while projects in other areas will begin as soon as technical and administrative formalities are completed.

Adv. Saif Din Bhat directed the concerned officers to ensure that relief and restoration works in the affected areas are completed on a priority basis and that all possible assistance reaches the affected population without delay. He also instructed the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments to conduct a comprehensive assessment of crop and orchard losses so that adequate compensation and relief can be provided to the affected farmers at the earliest.

Reiterating the people-centric commitment of the Omar Abdullah Government, the MLA said that the government stands firmly with the people during this difficult time and remains fully committed to the welfare, development and protection of the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He expressed hope that the ongoing measures would significantly reduce future flood risks, provide lasting relief to vulnerable communities, and ensure timely support to farmers affected by the hailstorm.
