Kulgam, June 11: Intensifying its crackdown on narcotics under the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, District Police Kulgam has taken action against a notorious drug peddler with a history of repeated involvement in drug trafficking cases, reaffirming its commitment to making the district drug-free.

As per news agency JKNS, Police Kulgam has booked notorious drug peddler Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh. Nabi Bhat, a resident of Tantraypora, Yaripora.

The accused has a long history of involvement in narcotics-related activities and has been booked in multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, including:

FIR No. 79/2010 under Sections 15/18 NDPS Act, Police Station Shopian. FIR No. 184/2022 under Sections 8/21, 29 NDPS Act, Police Station Shopian. FIR No. 110/2016 under Sections 8/15 NDPS Act, Police Station Yaripora and FIR No. 47/2025 under Sections 8/21 NDPS Act, Police Station Yaripora.

Police said the accused has remained actively involved in drug trafficking in the area and has repeatedly come under the scanner of law enforcement agencies for his alleged role in the narcotics trade.

The action has been widely appreciated by local residents, who have welcomed the police initiative against drug peddlers operating in the district.

District Police Kulgam reiterated its unwavering commitment towards building a drug-free society and stated that strict action will continue against all those involved in the drug menace and related criminal activities. (JKNS)
