Budgam, August 17: Social activist and youth leader Muzamil Mehmood, who has spent over a decade working on youth empowerment and community welfare initiatives, was recently honoured for his contribution to the 100 Days Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan.
At the Independence Day celebrations held at Sports Stadium Budgam on August 15, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha conferred a Certificate of Appreciation on Mehmood in recognition of his efforts towards the anti-drug campaign. The certificate was presented to him by Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Ul Aamir Shafi, IAS.
The recognition has brought attention to Mehmood’s sustained grassroots work, particularly his efforts to engage young people in awareness programmes, sports activities and community initiatives aimed at keeping them away from substance abuse.
For over a decade, Mehmood has been involved in social and youth-oriented activities, including anti-drug awareness rallies, padyatras, youth programmes, sports promotion, blood donation drives, health awareness, cleanliness and plantation initiatives.
“This recognition is a great encouragement for me to continue working for the welfare of society and strengthen efforts towards building a Nasha Mukt J&K. The fight against drug abuse requires the collective participation of families, educational institutions, civil society, administration, police and our youth,” Mehmood said.
He said his focus has been on providing young people with positive and constructive alternatives through sports, education, skill development and community participation.
“If we want to protect our youth from drugs, we must channelise their energy towards positive pursuits and create opportunities for them to grow. Sports, education, skills and community engagement can make a meaningful difference,” he said.
