COVID bomb explodes in J&K again: 3,251 fresh cases, four more die

Srinagar records spike of 624 cases, case tally at 355,874, death toll reaches to 4,561, active cases reaches to 12,860, recovery rate at 95.10 percent; Govt imposes week-end curfew across Valley

Srinagar, Jan 15: Jammu and Kashmir Saturday reported four deaths and yet another biggest spike of 3,251 fresh positive cases of COVID-19, taking the number of total active cases in the Union Territory to 12,860.

With four more deaths, the death toll in J&K has reached 4,561 and 3,251 fresh positive cases reported on Saturday have pushed the tally of positive cases to 355,874.

Of the exact number of 355,874 cases, 222,961 are from Kashmir division and 132,913 from Jammu division.

Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that among 3,251 new cases, 2,122 belong to Kashmir division while as 1,129 are from Jammu division, adding that the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division have reached to 222,961 including 213,448 recoveries and 2,343 deaths while as total number of positive cases in Jammu division have reached to 132,913 including 125,085 recoveries and 2,218 deaths.

The officials said that the total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 12,860 including 7,170 from Kashmir division and 5,690 from Jammu division.

With 390 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 338,453 which is 95.10 percent of the total cases.

“Cases tested positive in J&K include 624 from Srinagar, 471 from Baramulla, 416 from Budgam, 67 from Pulwama, 137 from Kupwara, 228 from Anantnag, 117 from Bandipora, 21 from Ganderbal, 37 from Kulgam and 04 Shopian in Kashmir division while as 1,129 from Jammu division include 685 from Jammu division, 125 from Udhampur, 34 from Rajouri, 24 from Doda, 59 from Kathua, 93 from Samba, 29 from Kishtwar, 35 from Poonch, 03 from Ramban and 42 from Reasi,” officials disclosed.

Meanwhile, authorities said that no fresh cases of Mucormycosis popularly known as black fungus was reported in the UT and the tally stands at 51.

As per officials figures, 81,781 positive cases including 885 deaths and 78,128 recoveries are from Srinagar, 27,849 including 292 deaths and 25,752 recoveries are from Baramulla, 25,623 including 24,469 recoveries and 221 deaths are from Budgam, 15,944 including 15,584 recoveries and 195 deaths are from Pulwama, 15,403 including 170 deaths and 14,880 recoveries are from Kupwara, 17,206 including 16,563 recoveries and 210 deaths are from Anantnag, 10,543 cases including 10,096 and 111 deaths are from Bandipora, 11,126 including 10,950 recoveries and 82 deaths are from Ganderbal, 11,848 including 11,465 recoveries and 118 deaths are from Kulgam and 5,638 including 5,561 recoveries and 59 deaths are from Shopian.

In Jammu division, 58,013 including 53,382 recoveries and 1,167 deaths are from Jammu district, 12,042 including 11,402 recoveries and 141 deaths are from Udhampur, 11,636 including 11,175 recoveries and 240 deaths are from Rajouri, 8,213 including 7,942 recoveries and 138 deaths are from Doda, 9,844 including 9,318 recoveries and 155 deaths are from Kathua, 7,438 including 7,093 recoveries and 120 deaths are from Samba, 4,977 including 4,843 recoveries and 44 deaths are from Kishtwar, 6,883 including 6,545 recoveries and 102 deaths are from Poonch, 6,155 including 6,057 recoveries and 67 deaths are from Ramban and 7,712 including 7,248 recoveries and 44 deaths are from Reasi.

As per the daily information bulletin 5,498,174 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while 7,336 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 12,860 persons are in isolation.

According to the bulletin, 5,040,535 persons have completed the surveillance period and 432,882 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 20,221,622 samples are available. Out of 20,221,622 the number of samples tested negative stands at 19,865,748 while 355,874 have tested positive, among them 12,860 persons are active, 338,453 persons have recovered and 4,561 persons have died. Meanwhile, the government imposed week-end curfew across the Valley including Srinagar on Saturday. Police vans were making announcements asking shopkeepers to close shops while commuters were asked to follow Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB). Many people who were found violating the CAB were slapped with fine—(KNO)
