Srinagar: A drug awareness programme was held at Hamdaniya School of Wachi area in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday

The program was organised by “We The Helping Hands Foundation” NGO under the theme of “Toh Chalo Ek Kadam Drug Free Kashmir Ki oar”

SDM Shopian Mushtaq Ahmad, DySP Shopian Riyaz Ahmad, Tehsildar Chittergam and officers from other departments, while noted religous scholar and pricipal of Idara Tehqiqat E Islami Irshad Hydari was the keynote speaker.
A huge number of people, including schoolchildren from different schools viz Hamdania High School Wachi, Alsaba Educational Institute Wachi, Valley Public school Litter, Iqra Islamia Institute Litter, Islamia Hanafia Institute Litter, Public Model School Gumdrvesh, Cambridge Noorani School Nagbal, Central Public School Chitragam attended the daylong awareness session

The speakers discussed drug usage and the importance of preventing drug addiction and other social evils in the district. Irshad Hydari in his address emphasized on young students to understand the ill physical and mental effects of drug abuse on youngsters. “Abuse of drugs makes people weak on their will and their body. It’s not easy to pursue a goal if one becomes and addict, he stated. He also focussed on the parents to keep a watch over their children and inculcate islamic values in their wards to save them from this menace. He also urged adminstration to play a more active and serious role to help curb this menace, “while administration is doing its bit to stop drug abuse especially weed and medical drugs but there still is scope to widen the sphere and stop youngsters especially teenagers from destroying their lives” said Mr Hydari.

The major goal of the programme, according to the organisers, was to raise awareness within the student population and encourage them to take the necessary actions to combat the drug problem

Umar Wani, the NGO’s Chairman, urged the kids to avoid drug usage and other social evils by being role models in education, sports, and other activities.

He emphasised on the negative impacts of drugs, saying that it begins as a harmless pastime but quickly becomes an addiction.

He stated that the young generation is most afflicted by drug addiction and must be totally removed from society, requesting the collaboration of all stakeholders

He further added that the grand event was only possible because of the tremendous support of the chairman ” Haji Abdul Hameed” of the above mentioned school and his all team members who worked day night to make this event happen.
