Srinagar, Jul 23: Amid surge in Covid- 19 cases in J&K, Defense Research & Development Organization (DRDO) hospital in Jammu has been already fully functional while as DRDO hospital in Srinagar is set to be made functional in the coming days.

Dr Shashi Sudan Principal Medical College Jammu while talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that DRDO hospital in Jammu is already ready and functional, though there are no admissions yet.

She said that Covid-19 positive patients are being treated at other hospitals as of now and if there will be rise in hospital admissions, then admissions in DRDO hospital will be started as well.

Officials said that there positivity rate of around 6 percent in Jammu currently, though 99 percent people are recovering in isolation only.

They said that there is rise in positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir but hospital admissions haven’t increased so much yet.

Medical Superintendent DRDO hospital Srinagar, Dr Abdul Rasheed Para told KNO that automatically DRDO Srinagar on stand and if number of hospital admissions will increase we will take admissions as well.

“Principal Medical College Srinagar a day before told that they are going to take call on it and in case there is too much of surge then we will have no option except to resume the admissions.” He said.

Officials said that it doesn’t take too much time to make it functional as everything is already in place and we have to get back the staff only.

It is pertinent to mention here that in 2021 during second wave of Covid-19 pandemic, a 500-bed DRDO hospital were established in Srinagar and Jammu.

Both DRDO hospitals are fully equipped with140 ventilators, 2 well-established oxygen plants, CT scan, X-ray, HFNO machine, NIV machines, High-Quality l Lb, 500 beds with portable x-rays, and a mortuary.

Both the hospitals have 500 beds consisting of 375 wards, 10 triages, 125 ICU beds of which 25 are designated for pediatric ICU—(KNO)
