Srinagar, Aug 03: Unlike last two years, the Jammu and Kashmir has recorded excess rainfall in June and July months this year, breaking 122-year-old record besides that the strong Western Disturbances (WDs) in between June 18-23 played a key role in compensating the impacts of severe heat wave in the early months of 2022, an independent weatherman from Srinagar claimed.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), an independent weather forecaster, Faizan Arif Keng said that the precipitation in June and July month this year breaks the 122-year-old record as rainfall of 343 mm against average of 268.5 mm was received in these two months in J&K.

He said that excess rainfall of 28 per cent was recorded in Jammu and Kashmir while Ladakh recorded 78 per cent excess rainfall.

Several places including Budgam, Srinagar, Baramulla, Pulwama and others received excess rainfall in June and July this year, he said, adding that Srinagar recorded 107 per cent excess rainfall in the same period.

“A couple of strong Western Disturbances between 18 June- 23 June caused heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir during which the day temperature also plummeted,” he said, adding that these strong WDs were a major contribution in the excess rainfall this year.

“During the same period in the last two years, J&K recorded below normal rainfall,” he said, adding that the excess rainfall in the last two months has compensated the impacts of severe heat wave including low water level in water bodies and other related things—(KNO)
