Srinagar, Aug 25: Week after the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha claimed that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is not under any restriction, the Hurriyat chief is expected to lead the congregational Friday prayers on August 26 at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar’s downtown after being under curbs for more than three years.

In a report published by The Wire, a source told the news organization, “Mirwaiz saheb will leave his residence on Friday morning (August 26) and proceed to Jamia Masjid where he will deliver the khutba (sermon) and also lead the congregational prayers”.

Earlier in the day, Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid said that it is hopeful that its President and Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Mohammad Umar Farooq who has been under house incarceration since 5 August 2019, will be allowed by the authorities to come to Jama Masjid tomorrow for Friday prayers and majlis-e-waz-o-tableeg , after LG Manoj Sinha’s astonishing claim to a foreign media channel that “he has no restrictions” last week.

Anjuman in a statement said that for the last three years the pulpit of Jama Masjid has fallen silent, due to Mirwaiz’s house arrest, and despite repeated appeals from all sections for his release, he has forcibly been detained at home, causing grief to people.

Anjuman said all preparations have been made for tomorrow’s Friday sermon by the Mirwaiz at Jama Masjid and people are eagerly awaiting his release and looking forward to seeing and hearing him.–(Agencies)
