The news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) has learnt that the students have performed poorly in almost all parameters except for one in the mathematics subject.

According to the report, in NAS-2017, 66 percent students had given a correct answer to the question—construction and uses the multiplication facts (tables) of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 in daily life situations’, however, in the recently conducted assessment survey, only 49.72 percent of students have correctly answered it.

The report further reads that 55 percent of students had solved simple daily life problems using addition and subtraction of three digit numbers, sums not exceeding 999. In 2021, only 53.93 percent of students answered it.

In a question of identifying and making 2D-shapes by paper folding and paper cutting, there has been decline in answering the questions by 21.17 percent in comparison to the previous NAS-2017 followed by decline of two percent in a question, ‘Filling a given region leaving no gaps using a tile of a given shape’.

Similarly, at least 69 percent of students from Jammu and Kashmir had given a correct answer to a question—‘Compares numbers up to 999 for their value based on their place value’ while in the JKUT assessment survey only 63.43 percent had answered it correctly.

The students have only improved in estimating and measuring the length and distance using standard units like centimeter or meter and identifying relationships. It has improved by 0.50 percent only.

According to the report, there has been a drop in answering the question of ‘extending patterns in simple shapes and numbers’ by 21.76 percent in the recently conducted assessment survey—(KNO)
