Kulgam , Nov, 23: A bear was successfully trapped in a cage installed by wildlife authorities in Nowbugh, Kund, Kulgam, on Tuesday night, around 9:45 PM. The cage had been set up two days earlier following reports from local residents about bear sightings in the area.
The decision to install the cage was made after the residents raised concerns about the increasing presence of bears near their homes and fields, posing a potential threat to both human and animal safety. The Wildlife Warden (South) and the Range Officer of Bringi gave the green light for the operation, which was promptly executed by the local wildlife team.
Upon receiving the news of the bear’s capture, a tranquilizer team, led by Ovais Khan from the Control Room Doru, was dispatched to the site. The team administered tranquilizers to safely sedate the bear before it was relocated to a more remote forest area, away from human settlements.
Authorities have reassured the public that the bear is unharmed and will be released into a safer environment. The operation was a part of ongoing efforts to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts in the region, with officials emphasizing the importance of reporting wildlife sightings promptly to avoid potential risks. Local residents have expressed relief, and wildlife teams continue to monitor the area for any further animal movements.
