Kulgam: The Janata Dal United (JDU) organized a workers’ convention today at Rest House Chawalgam, aiming to expand its influence in the region. The event witnessed the participation of senior party leaders, workers, and supporters.
During the convention, JDU President G.M. Shaheen appointed Advocate Zaman Irshad Parray as the General Secretary for Jammu and Kashmir. In his address, Shaheen stressed the importance of grassroots leadership and expressed confidence that Parray’s appointment would strengthen the party’s presence in Kulgam and beyond.
Advocate Zaman Irshad Parray, in his speech, reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of the people and vowed to work on developmental initiatives. He urged party workers to unite in addressing public grievances and promoting JDU’s vision in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the event, G.M. Shaheen criticized the National Conference (NC) government, stating that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had powers equivalent to a panchayat member. He further declared that if the Centre restores statehood to Jammu and Kashmir under an NC-led government, he would resign from his party. He accused the National Conference of failing to work for the people, stating that ministers, MLAs, and the Chief Minister focus only on their salaries rather than public welfare.
The convention also provided a platform for workers to discuss key issues affecting Kulgam. Party leaders reiterated their commitment to social justice, economic growth, and better governance, emphasizing JDU’s role in addressing local concerns.
