Kulgam, Aug 20: The District President of J&K Employees Coordination Committee Teachers Association Kulgam, Mubarak Ahmad Wani, along with other committee members, today met the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kulgam and raised several long-pending issues concerning teachers and school staff across the district.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Wani expressed serious concern over multiple unresolved matters that continue to affect both the welfare of employees and the smooth functioning of schools.
He said that time-bound promotion files have been lying pending since December 2024, leaving many eligible staff members in uncertainty. He further pointed out that liabilities under the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) scheme, amounting to nearly ₹2.5 crore, have remained unpaid since August 2024. This, he said, has severely hampered the functioning of the scheme and burdened schools.
Wani also highlighted that the salaries of cooks and AAYA workers engaged under MDM have been pending for months, adding that these workers are demanding enhancement in their meager honorarium to sustain their families.
Teachers further raised concerns over the long-pending issuance of CPW (Contingent Paid Worker) orders and urged the government to expedite the process of filling substantive posts to ensure adequate staffing in schools.
The employees appealed to the School Education Department and district administration to take immediate measures for redressal of these grievances. They also urged the Education Minister Sakeena Itoo to personally intervene and resolve the long-pending issues of the department at the earliest.
