Jammu, Jun 1: Marking the observance of World Milk Day, the Jammu and Kashmir Dairy Farmers Association has announced a revision in the retail price of milk across Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the association, the retail price of milk has been increased by Rs 5 per litre with effect from June 1, 2026. The decision was taken following a comprehensive review of rising costs associated with milk procurement, cattle feed, fodder, transportation, veterinary care, packaging materials, fuel, gas and other operational expenses.
Speaking on the occasion, Sandeep Singh Chib said World Milk Day provides an opportunity to recognize the invaluable contribution of dairy farmers who work tirelessly to ensure a steady supply of nutritious milk. He stated that the price revision would help strengthen the dairy value chain and support sustainable milk production.
Chib also appealed to milk producers to sell milk to vendors at an additional Rs 5 per litre/kg compared to the previous rate, ensuring that the benefits of the revision reach dairy farmers as well.
Reaffirming its commitment to providing safe, hygienic and high-quality milk to consumers, the association said the revised pricing would help safeguard the interests of thousands of dairy farmers while ensuring long-term sustainability of the dairy sector.
The JKDFA also expressed gratitude to Smita Sethi for issuing a prohibitory order against loose paneer consignments imported from neighbouring states and transported or stored under unsanitary and non-refrigerated conditions.
Chib, along with the association’s core team, said the measure would help protect consumer health and promote food safety standards across the Union Territory.
