Srinagar, Sep 26: Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) J&K State President Vivek Bali said that any debate concerning the Election Commission and the electoral process should be conducted on the basis of facts, transparency and accountability.
Reacting to the recent demands by opposition parties for the resignation or removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Bali said, “It is precisely because of Mr. Gyanesh that these people win elections. If they are concerned about the electoral system, they should first resign from their own constitutional posts before speaking about the CEC.” Opposition parties have recently intensified their demands concerning the CEC amid a controversy over the functioning of the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Bali further stated, “Our demand is clear: before discussing Mr. Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, the opposition should first resign from their own positions and take responsibility for their political performance. Accountability must apply equally to everyone.”
He emphasized that political parties should engage in constructive and fact-based debate on electoral institutions and work towards strengthening public confidence in the democratic process through transparency, institutional accountability and respect for constitutional mechanisms.
Vivek Bali reiterated that accountability should not be selective and that every political stakeholder should uphold the principles of democratic responsibility and institutional integrity.
