In a statement issued today, Vivek Bali said that the increasing use of single-use plastic at tourist spots is damaging the natural beauty and fragile environment of the Union Territory. “Jammu and Kashmir is known across the world for its breathtaking landscapes, serene valleys, and pristine lakes. Allowing plastic waste to accumulate at these places sends a wrong message to visitors and harms our ecosystem,” he said.

He further stated that if strict measures are taken to ban one-time use polythene at tourist destinations, cleanliness will improve significantly. “A clean environment will not only preserve our natural heritage but also attract more tourists from across the country and abroad. This will directly boost the local economy and strengthen the livelihood of thousands of families dependent on tourism,” Bali added.

Vivek Bali urged the LG Administration of Jammu and Kashmir to intervene in the matter and take concrete steps to implement a strict ban, along with awareness campaigns and proper waste management systems.

He emphasized that protecting the environment is a collective responsibility and called upon citizens, shopkeepers, hoteliers, and tourists to cooperate in making Jammu and Kashmir a model for eco-friendly tourism.
